The Haven opens its doors to young people in Surrey

Our Trust, along with Surrey County Council and Guildford and Waverley CCG, has launched a new service that offers 10-18 year olds a place to talk about things they are struggling to deal with. The Haven, based at the Discovery Centre in Guildford, is open for a two year trial period to give children and young people a chance to meet other young people as well as get help with any difficulties they may have.

Sharon Dean, Mindful Service Lead at Surrey and Borders Partnership, said: “We are extremely excited to launch The Haven because it will add a new dimension to child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) in Surrey.

“With our open door policy, young people in crisis will be able to access mental health support in a relaxed and safe environment that is conducive to social inclusion, promoting their self-worth and self-esteem. Whether the person attending just wants to come in for a friendly chat about their mental health over a cup of tea, or are experiencing a crisis, there will be someone on hand to support them.

“It will also give parents and carers a place to go if they have any concerns or queries they would like to discuss.”

You can visit The Haven without an appointment or referral and talk privately to qualified staff on a one to one basis and help prevent problems from escalating.

The Haven is open on Sundays from 12-6pm and has sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays for two different age groups: 4-6pm for 10-14 year olds and 6-8pm for 15-18 year olds.

Support is also available for parents who are an important factor in a young person’s mental health.
