Reset, Tower Hamlets integrated drug and alcohol treatment had its formal launch on Monday 3 July. The service has seen 500 new starts into treatment in the first six months since it opened for business on 1 February 2017.
Reset offers treatment, advice and information to substance users (drug and alcohol) and to people who have concerns about a relative or friend.
The event was split into two parts. The first took place in the Reset Treatment Service at Beaumont House, Mile End Hospital in the morning. Attendees then took a ‘Recovery Walk’ to the Reset Support Centre at Whitechapel for the afternoon session.
Inspirational Approach
Ann Corbett, Divisional Director, Community Safety at the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, said that as a newcomer to the borough, she had been impressed with the approach the service was taking in supporting some of the most vulnerable people in the borough who often had complex needs.
Marie Gabriel, Chair of East London NHD Foundation Trust, endorsed this view. She praised the service and the local authority commissioners for shaping the Reset to provide both treatment and aftercare support for local residents
The service is a combination of NHS services and voluntary sector services all bringing their strengths into a one stop shop for local people. For local residents and professionals, it is one easy route into service, with an open door every day for drop-ins.
Development Manager Darryl Springer said, “We’re delighted to be part of the Reset partnership and look forward to continuing to offer support to some of the most vulnerable people in Tower Hamlets in this new innovative model. Every day we take inspiration from seeing our service users journey on the road to recovery.”
Service User Feedback
Attendees viewed a film where service users talked about the impact the service has had on them. Another service user talked about his artwork and photography and of how they helped to distract him and give him a focus during his treatment.
Reset organised a ‘Comment Tree’ for users of the service to give feedback about Reset. It has had over 90 messages providing comment and feedback which the service can act on.
One Stop Service for All Needs
Reset is a multidisciplinary specialist service made up of nursing staff, medical staff and specialist workers. It comprises NHS expertise provided by the Trust; Blenheim, an experienced charity supporting people with substance misuse issues, and Providence Row, a Tower Hamlets based charity which tackles homelessness. So all the health and social needs of patients can be managed within the service.
