Gareth Sharman – Avon and Wiltshire Partnership NHS Trust – Making A Difference Winner 2013

Gareth was initially our service user involvement worker for our specialist drug and alcohol services but recently has taken on a Trustwide role leading our involvement workers for all our localities and specialist services.

His role is to reach out to service users, encouraging them to get involved in the work of the Trust in mutually beneficial and supportive ways. He also leads on developing involvement work across the Trust and has recently helped establish a new team of involvement workers. His approach to involvement is that it has to benefit the recovery of the individuals concerned at least as much as it benefits our services, our other service users and carers, and our staff.

Gareth is an unstoppable force of nature. The culture of our organisation has changed massively over the last year and Gareth embodies that change: he is all about getting on and making things happen and helping other people to make things happen. There is no hanging around or procrastinating where Gareth is involved. He is passionate, enthusiastic, energetic, funny, relentless – all things that contribute to great leadership.
