I’d like to start this blog by offering my congratulations to the Primary Care Mental Health Liaison team that have won the Best Nursing Technology award at the ehi Awards 2017 – Recognising Innovation and Excellence in Digital Health and Wellbeing.
The award was won for developing and implementing the GATE assessment tool in primary care, which is used by the Community Care teams across Liverpool to screen for health needs and is playing an important part in the transformation of community services across the city.
Importantly, this is a tool that has been developed in partnership between Mersey Care, Liverpool Community Health NHS Trust, Liverpool Community Commissioning Group, Liverpool City Council and Informatics Merseyside. This partnership approach is going to become more and more important given this period of austerity and is just one of the ways we can make the public pound stretch further.
The GATE is a perfect example of that, which was developed as an holistic assessment, where information is shared and we work more collaboratively with providers across Liverpool to enhance patient care and reduce hospital admissions.
It was the start of an impressive week for Mersey Care with the ‘No Force First’ team winning the Improving Patient Safety Award at the Nursing Times Awards (pictured below) while Neil Smith won the Finance Director of the Year for the Liverpool City Region at the FD Awards 2017.
A final mention must also go to the Everton in the Community programme, which also won silver for Best Football Community Scheme at the Footiebiz awards. Well done to everyone – you should all feel very proud at your innovation and dedication to improving healthcare standards.
Continuing the theme of congratulations, I’d particularly like to single out Jane Hulme, one of our District Nurse Team Leaders, after she made history for the Trust earlier this week.
Jane (pictured right, below) became the first nurse from the Trust to be awarded the prestigious title of Queen’s Nurse by the Queen’s Nursing Institute (QNI), which is an indication of commitment to high standards of patient care, learning and leadership.
She was one of 119 nurses nationally who received the honour this week in London from Professor Jean White CBE QNI Fellow/Chief Nursing Officer for Wales.
Each nurse had to provide information in relation to their qualifications, employment and training and a report outlining how they improve patient care in order to receive the title.
It was also extremely pleasing that the Life Rooms were asked to present at a King’s Fund conference this week, titled ‘Community Health Services: shifting the focus to our of hospital care.’
For those of you who don’t know, the King’s Fund works as an independent charity working to improve health and care in England and is extremely influential in Government circles. For them to ask the Life Rooms to present on our model is further evidence that other people are taking notice of our innovation.
In fact, at a time when this Trust is actively striving to deliver ‘Perfect Care’, it’s great to see both individuals and teams being recognised by national awards and getting invitations from influential bodies.
It shows that our commitment to innovation and improving best practice is being noticed, and also underlines that how influential we are becoming as an organisation with our desire to deliver the best possible standards of healthcare right across the diverse services provided by this organisation.
